I have a Mac so I am using Excel for Mac. I have a excel file that I want to import. So I saved as a csv file in excel. Then I followed the import steps in Batchbook to import the csv file. When I did so the message, “Unable to parse provided file. Please try again” came up. I cant seem to find a way to get around this. I have tried several times. Please help. There is nothing in the FAQ concerning this.

Hi Jason: On this FAQ there is a link to a CSV template. (Direct link to template) Since CSV files can vary immensely, sometimes they can be tricky to import. Using this template will allow you to get everything in columns and rows that should do the trick. It should involve just some copying and pasting into specific columns.

If you run into any issues, please let me know.

Is it possible to create new fields in the csv file to import into batch book? For example I have a list of on event. The list has sponsors and attendees in the list. I want to tag them separately into batch book. Do I need to break the list up and import them separately?

Hello Jason… this isn’t possible yet, but we are looking into ways to take extra fields from a CSV import and automatically have them populate a SuperTag.

So, here’s what I’m thinking—you can tag all contacts in your CSV when you import it. The extra fields could be added to this tag in the form of a SuperTag.

I don’t have timeline on this, but does that seem to describe what you would need?

Thanks again for writing in.

Uh, am I an idiot, or why won’t the “batchbook_import_template.csv” file open on my Mac? Running Excel vX for Mac. Won’t open. Doesn’t recognize the file. When I go to the link provided above, nothing will download. It only gives me a web page with “firstname, lastname, jobtitle, company, tags…” on the screen.

All I want to do is import my contacts…

Thanks to Dripbook for writing in to email support for this. Turns out, for some reason Excel was grayed out in his Open dialog box. Switching from Recommended Applications to All Applications allowed Excel to be used and opened the file.
